突然の雨で、傘がなくて困ったり、慌てて傘を買ったのにすぐ晴れてしまった、という経験をした人は多いだろう。必要な時だけ傘が借りられたら、どんなに便利だろうか。

There are many people who have experienced that they were in trouble because they didn't have an umbrella due to the sudden rain, or that they bought an umbrella in a hurry, but it cleared up quickly. How convenient would it be if you could borrow an umbrella only when you need it?

実は、それが可能な町がある。この町は、「弁当を忘れても傘を忘れるな」という言葉があるように、とても雨が多い。そして、観光客の多い町でもある。傘がなくてもみんな が困らないように、最近、この町のあるグループが「貸し傘」活動を始めた。

Actually, there is a town where it is possible. As the saying goes, "Don't forget your umbrella even if you forget your lunch box" in this town, it rains a lot. And it's also a town with a lot of tourists. In order for everyone not to be troubled without an umbrella, a group in this town recently started "rental umbrella" activities.

この傘は、観光客でも市民でも無料で自由に利用できる。現在、4500本以上がバス停やスーパー、公共の建物などの「貸し傘」用の傘立てに置いてあって、必要な時はそれを借りることができる。返すのは借りたのと同じ傘立てでなくてもいい。

This umbrella can be used freely by both tourists and citizens for free. Currently, more than 4,500 are placed on umbrella stands for "rental umbrellas" such as bus stops, supermarkets, and public buildings, and you can borrow them when necessary. You don't have to return it with the same umbrella stand you borrowed.

貸し傘」を始めたグループでは、借りた傘は大切に使い、きちんと返してほしいと言っている。また、どこかに置いたままの「貸し傘」を見つけたら傘立てに戻すなどの協力もしてほしいと呼びかけている。

The group that started "rental umbrellas" says that they want you to use the borrowed umbrella carefully and return it properly. In addition, if you find a "rental umbrella" left somewhere, they are also calling for cooperation such as returning it to the umbrella stand.
